Speaker Brief

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hj Zahari Hamidon currently serves as the Head of the Centre for Learning Technology (CLT) at Open University Malaysia. In this pivotal role, he leads a dedicated team to ensure that content is innovatively designed and effectively delivered to online learners, particularly working adults. Dr. Zahari’s academic journey is rooted in a diverse educational background. He holds an undergraduate degree in Art and Design (Fine Art) from MARA University of Technology (UITM), Malaysia, as well as an M.Ed. in Computers in Education and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Malaya, Malaysia. His professional journey began as a teacher from 1985 to 1990, followed by a tenure as a lecturer at the Technical Teachers Training College in Kuala Lumpur from 1991 to 1998. He then served as a Lecturer on Multimedia at Telekom Multimedia Centre, Kuala Lumpur, from 1997 to 1999. His career further advanced as he took on the role of Instructional Designer at METEOR, supporting Open University Malaysia (OUM) from 1999 to 2000, and later as an academic at University Brunei Darussalam from 2001 to 2013. Dr. Zahari has a robust presence in the academic community, presenting papers and conducting workshops at various conferences, seminars, and workshops. He specializes in areas such as Instructional Design, Virtual Learning, and Interface Design. His research interests include MOOCs, Cognitive Load, User Interface Design, Learning Design and Technology, Prompt Engineering for AI Text Generative, AI Image Generative, and Usability Studies, which form the core of his current research focus.
